Storm Rolls In
Limited print run. The reverse of each print is stamped for authenticity and signed and numbered by the photographer.
Photographer’s Note: Lake Champlain lies in between New York, Vermont and Quebec. It is 107 miles long and 14 miles across at its widest point. At that size, the lake can be unpredictable. Storms can whip up huge wave and strong currents. In fact, the lake is home to 300+ shipwrecks. On calm days, however, the lake can be as tranquil and as smooth as glass (see “Lake Mirroring” for a beautiful example of a calm day on the lake).
On this day, I was preparing to go out on a sailboat, when a small craft warning was issued. Within just 20 minutes, the storm had started crossing the lake from New York. As the sun began to set, I stood on the roof of the boathouse watching the storm roll in, transfixed. I was counting the seconds to see how long it took for the storm to reach the little lighthouse on the breakwater. This is the only picture I took that afternoon, but it was the only one I needed. Within minutes of this photo, the storm had passed, the skies cleared and the lake had returned to pits prior state as if nothing had happened.
