Salt Flat Sunset

from $55.00

Limited print run. The reverse of each print is stamped for authenticity and signed and numbered by the photographer.

Photographer’s Note: This photograph was taken atop Telescope Peak in Death Valley National Park during a winter sunset. The landscape visible below includes the Badwater Basin Salt Flats. Most people think of Death Valley as a barren landscape, but in fact it is one of the most beautiful National Parks in America with incredibly diverse landscapes spanning the park’s lands.

Badwater Basin is the lowest point in North America at 282 ft below sea level. The salt flats here cover nearly 200 square miles (518 square km) and are composed mostly of sodium chloride (table salt), along with calcite, gypsum, and borax. The sheer scale of this place is nearly unfathomable. On the day I took this photograph, I experienced temperatures of 75 degrees in the basin and snow flurries on Telegraph Peak. To me, this is a really special place where so many elements, climates and ecosystems meet.
