Golden Poppy Glory

from $55.00

Limited print run. The reverse of each print is stamped for authenticity and signed and numbered by the photographer.

Photographer’s Note: A “superbloom” is a rare desert botanical phenomenon in which an unusually high proportion of wildflowers whose seeds have lain dormant in desert soil germinate and blossom at roughly the same time. The phenomenon is associated with an unusually wet rainy season.

Superblooms occur in Southern California on average every 10 -15 years. I never got to witness one when I lived in Los Angeles. Almost ten years after moving to the east coast I was lucky enough to find myself in California just in time to catch the first few days of a super bloom. Pictured here are an affluence of golden poppies, the state flower of California. This image was taken in the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve which attracts tremendous crowds when the flowers start to blossom. Often many of the flowers are trampled by eager tourists within a few days. Fortunately, in this image, the flowers are intact, and the crowds haven’t yet arrived. This image brings sunshine and the exuberance of a super bloom to any room.
